13 Dec 2020

This Sunday , December 13th, in this the most unique and strange of championships, the All-Ireland senior hurling final comes to fruition as Limerick and Waterford meet in Croke Park.

In this, the finest day in Irish sport, made even more special by an 82,000-seat stadium being empty, millions will watch and listen on from all parts of the world.

Once more UCC will have more than a passing interest in the outcome of this game as there are strong ties with both counties. In all six students are on both panels, four from Limerick and two from Waterford.

The Limerick students are Paddy O'Loughlin, a Fitzgibbon Cup 2020 captain, who is studying for a Master's in Accounting; Conor Boylan and his brother Jerome who study Commerce as well as Ronan Connolly who is in Mathematical Science.

Waterford provide Neil Montgomery, Finance 4th year as well as Iarlaith Daly who is in 2nd year Mathematical Science. As well as these current students, there are many graduates on both sides, Waterford's Kevin Moran, Tadhg de Burca, Jamie Barron, Conor Gleeson, Pat Curran, Pauric Mahony, Ian Kenny and Mike Bevans. Graduates from Limerick are Dan Morrissey, Graeme Mulcahy, Adrian Breen and the team manager John Kiely.

While we are at it, the Joe McDonogh Cup final between Kerry and Antrim is on before the Senior Final, and Master's in Management Information student Shane Conway from Lixnaw, the guy known as 'The Messi of UCC hurling' will attempt to win his All Ireland.

Best of luck to all. Enjoy the day!
