“Indian at heart and Irish by soul".
“Indian at heart and Irish by soul" is how UCC alum Lekha Menon Margassery fondly describes herself.
The Indian born researcher graduated with a PhD in Microbiology from UCC in 2013 and now works in UCC's School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology. She is also a leading member of the Indian Community Support group set up in response to the COVID-19 pandemic by the Ambassador of India to Ireland. Lekha ran as a candidate in the local elections in 2019 and is the founder of ‘Aatma’, an Indian dance school in Cork. She is president of the UCC Indian Alumni Community and a member of the UCC Alumni Board.
