We are delighted to announce that our popular free online workshop series returns for 2026/2027 with a new name and a broader remit. Building on five years and more than fifty workshops delivered to hundreds of English language practitioners in Ireland and beyond, the Pedagogy Workshops are now the UCC Language Centre Professional Development Series. Alongside our pedagogy strands, we are adding sessions in professional communication and intercultural awareness for staff and professionals who work in multicultural, English-speaking environments. 

Delivery 

Thursdays 4 to 5 pm (Irish time) online via Zoom. 

All sessions are free to attend and run at intervals across the academic year, starting in October. A certificate of attendance is provided. 

Audience 

The pedagogy sessions (Series 1 to 4) are aimed at a cross-section of ELT practitioners, from novice to seasoned. Series 5, Intercultural Communication, is open to all who work in a multicultural environment where English is the shared language, including university administrative and professional staff, and lecturers who teach through English. 

About the workshops 

Each one-hour interactive session is led by our experienced teachers and trainers and combines theory with hands-on practice. You will leave with practical strategies and insights you can apply straight away, whether in the classroom, the lecture hall or the workplace. 

This year the series is structured into five themes: 

1. Series 1: Core Language Skills and Pedagogy. Fresh perspectives on teaching grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. 

1. Series 2: Technology Integration in Language Teaching. Practical approaches to using generative AI and digital tools effectively. 

1. Series 3: Expanding Teaching Methodologies. Mediation, storytelling, and core approaches such as task-based learning, the lexical approach and Dogme. 

1. Series 4: English for the 21st Century University (EAP, EMI and Assessment). The changing EAP learner, teaching your subject through English (EMI), and protecting assessment integrity in the age of AI. 

1. Series 5: Intercultural Communication. Clear, effective communication across cultures for teachers and for all who work in multicultural, English-speaking settings. A taster for our Effective Communication courses.
