School of Chemistry TY Week 2025

11 Jun 2025

At the end of Spring we held our annual TY week at the School of Chemistry University College Cork. There was great demand for the program with 163 TY students from across Munster applying for the 24 places.

When asked what was the best part of the week one student said "All of it was enjoyable, I would say that everything I did was fun. It was very interactive activities and it was highly engaging."

Other comments were "Thank you for a great week. I appreciate that this week was set up for us and hope this will be on for many years to come. Thank you to the staff and demonstrators for helping us and benefiting us with knowledge about chemistry." And, "It was very well organised and wasn't designed in a way that went over our heads" with "I loved how everyone answered all the questions we had and I definitely learnt a lot about chemistry, thank you!"

The Head of the School, Professor Anita Maguire said, "The TY programme is an ideal opportunity for students to gain experience and insight into chemistry and how it impacts on everyday life. One of the most important elements of the TY week in the School of Chemistry is the inclusion of hands-on experiments to give the students the opportunity to see chemistry in action. Thanks to all involved in the coordination and delivery of the TY week each year – the impact of this on future generations of chemists is very significant. The very high level of interest in participation in the TY week each year reflects the hard work and commitment of the team delivering the programme."
