7 Mar 2025

On 6th March 2025 the UCC Chemical Society celebrated its 100 Year Anniversary at an event in Cork County Cricket Club.

This event marked a significant milestone in the Society's history. Staff, alumni, postgraduates and undergraduates attended the evening formal, kindly sponsored by the Royal Society of Chemistry. The evening included speeches by James Hennessy (current Chairperson), Prof. Anita Maguire (Head of the School of Chemistry), and Dr. John O'Donoghue (Royal Society of Chemistry and Trinity College Dublin, a former Chairperson of the Society). James presented an account of the Society's storied history over the years complemented by a display of many photos and records over the years. This was followed by an evening of networking and catching up with old friends. ChemSoc extends its thanks to the School of Chemistry, the RSC and all other sponsors for supporting this wonderful celebration.

Participation in a student society is an extremely important element of the student experience, complementing and enriching the academic aspects of the student journey and providing valuable life skills. The support from the Royal Society of Chemistry is gratefully acknowledged.”
