School of Chemistry Lecturer Honoured in Staff Recognition Awards

The Staff Recognition Awards were held on Wednesday evening, 23rd October 2024 in the Aula Max. These awards are presented to both individuals and Teams, acknowledging their outstanding dedication and commitment to University life and to the wider community.

This year there were 13 awards presented across seven categories for the Staff Recognition Awards and 3 awards across three categories for the Campus Companies Staff Recognition Awards. You can view all the images from the evening in the Workvivo photo gallery here

Professor John O’Halloran, President welcomed everyone on the night. Award recipients and guests, nominators, members of selection panels, governors and UCC colleagues said it was “a wonderful combination of creative energy and ability, reflecting the full extent and broad reach of University activities”

Dr Anne Gannon, People and Culture Department(HR) hosted this year’s ceremony. Each nominator of an award was invited on stage to introduce the awardees.

Among those honoured was Dr Gerard McGlacken, Senior Lecturer in Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and Vice Dean of Research in the College of Science, Engineering, and Food Science. Dr McGlacken was presented with an Impact Award which is given to those who demonstrate the most outstanding achievements in building relationships /collaborations, optimisating opportunities, creativity and innovation, and/or self-starter capability.

Prof Anita Maguire, Head of School and Director of UCC Future Pharmaceuticals, congratulated Ger on this award "It is great to see Ger’s work recognised through this Impact award, including his impactful collaborations with pharma companies locally and globally, and the provision of skilled PhD graduates to the sector, in addition to his leadership as Vice Dean of Research in SEFS."
