Technical Officer Position

Applications are invited for this full time position in the Department of Chemistry at UCC.

We are a large, multidisciplinary and highly research active Department with approximately 300 undergraduate students, 20 taught postgraduate students, 80 postgraduate research students and ca. 30 Postdoctoral Researchers.  The Department currently has 21 FTE Academic staff, 4 Admin staff and 10 Technical Support Staff.

The successful applicant will be required to contribute to the provision of general technical support for teaching and research activities across all areas of the Department but particularly in second and third year Organic Chemistry laboratory classes.  Duties will include maintaining and developing our practical experimental teaching and research portfolio at all levels, across all areas of Chemistry where appropriate, but particularly focusing on undergraduate training, where the need to engage and capture the chemical and technical skills necessary for our students to find employment in the Chemical and Pharmaceutical industries or various research careers is paramount.  The appointee will work under direction and report directly to the Head of Department and his/her overall duties will be allocated in consultation with various committees within the Department.

Applicants must hold at least a BSc (Hons) qualification in Chemistry, but preferably a Masters or PhD Degree in Chemistry.  More specific duties are given with the Further Particulars associated with the post.  Applicants should be able to demonstrate the capacity to complement and enhance existing teaching and research interests within the School.

Salary scale [new entrants]: €37,773 - €52,564.  The scale quoted is subject to change. In all instances the successful appointment will be at the first point of the scale.
