Royal Society of Chemistry Undergraduate Research Bursary

Summer project at UCC awarded to Stephen Lombard/Dr. Micheál Scanlon.
This summer Stephen Lombard (pictured left), an undergraduate within the Chemistry Department in UCC, has explored the photochemistry of zinc porphyrins at electrified water/oil interfaces. The aim of this research is to develop a completely novel approach to solar energy conversion using “soft” interfaces that mimic processes occurring in biological photosynthetic membranes.
Stephen was working in Dr. Micheál D. Scanlon’s (right) research group with Andrés Molina Osorio (center), a PhD student, as his supervisor in the laboratory. Stephen’s summer internship was funded by a Royal Society of Chemistry Undergraduate Research Bursary that he and Dr. Scanlon won earlier this year.
