UCC Chemistry App Launched

9 Sep 2014
New innovative app for students and staff.

The first Chemistry Department app in Ireland (possibly the world) has just been launched at UCC. It is titled 'UCC Chemistry' and is available in both the iPhone/iPad (App store) and Android (Google Play) stores.

The ChemApp contains many useful features for current undergraduate and postgraduate students but also provides relevant information to prospective students from all over the world.

Prof Martyn Pemble, Head of Chemistry said: "The app will be of enormous benefit to students and staff alike. Now, using their mobile device, students can access all the information that they are likely to need from the Department, including timetables, venues for lectures, news about the Department and links to useful chemistry student apps such as Blackboard and Moodle. I believe that this development is a very positive one, which will hopefully contribute significantly to the quality of the student experience in Chemistry."

Trevor Carey, Technical Officer in Physical Chemistry at UCC, who initiated and co-ordinated the development of the app with Kieran Moloney (AppMakeIt.com) said it is crucially important that students get immediate and mobile access to our teaching and training programmes. “Nowadays the majority of people view online information from a tablet or a smart phone, so we have to keep up with the needs and expectations of our students, staff and visitors. Hopefully the app will grow in time into an indispensable technological tool for all the Department, as well as helping to attract more students to study Chemistry at UCC.”

Please direct all app related queries and feedback to Trevor Carey.
