The Graduate School in the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences (CACSSS) is inviting applications for the PhD Excellence Scholarship.

The scholarship takes the form of payment of the PhD EU fee by the Graduate School for one year initially.  Subject to certain conditions being met, including a successful annual progress review, funding may be renewed annually up to a maximum of three years.  See the PhD Excellence Scholarship T&C 2026 for further information.

Who can Apply?  

  • Applicants who have already applied for an MPhil or doctoral programme in any School or Department in the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences on UCCApply to commence in the 2026/2027 academic year.
  • Registered MPhil or doctoral students in their first or second year of registration at the time of application from any School or Department in CACSSS. 

Important Notes

  • For all applicants one letter of support from a supervisor/proposed supervisor speaking to the quality of the proposal/project must submitted by your supervisor/proposed supervisor. You are responsible for providing your supervisor with the link to the letter of support form. 

How to apply

Closing Date: 11.00am on Monday, 25 May 2026

Applicants will receive an email in mid-July advising them of the outcome of their application.  Successful applicants will then have 7 days to study the terms and conditions, including the responsibilities of scholarship holders, and accept the offer, after which the scholarship will be offered to the next ranked candidate.
