A very warm welcome to Dr. Pedro Tetteroo, newly appointed Adjunct Professor in Biochemistry

We are delighted to welcome Dr Pedro Tetteroo to the School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology as an Adjunct Professor.

Pedro brings a wealth of experience to the School through his extensive leadership experience in the Biopharmaceutical Industry and his knowledge and network in the life sciences. Pedro lives close to Leiden in the Netherlands and has an extensive and distinguished academic record. He has a BSc and MSc in Biophysics from the State University of Leiden and a PhD in Medical Science from the University of Amsterdam. Pedro completed four years postdoctoral work as a Research Fellow in Immunohaematology and then served as Head of the Laboratory of Immunocytology at the Central Laboratory of the Netherlands Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service in Amsterdam for 2 years before joining Centocor Biopharmaceuticals (Johnson & Johnson) in Leiden. Pedro has over 50 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals including the top journals Nature and PNAS.

Pedro has an exemplary record in leadership and achievement in biotechnology and biomanufacturing.  In his work at Centocor Biopharmaceuticals, he served as Head of Cell Biology, Director Cell Culture Production, Director Pilot Fermentation and Technology Transfer, Director of Manufacturing Technical Support, Plant Manager, Senior Director of Operations, Executive Director of Operation and 10 years as Vice President and General Manager of the entire Centocor Biomanufacturing Facility in Leiden. During his time at Centocor, Pedro led both the development and implementation of the strategic plan which grew Centocor Leiden from 100 to 1200 employees. Since retiring from Centocor, Pedro has developed and accumulated major experience as an executive business coach and mentor with numerous clients across dozens of pharma and biobusiness companies. Pedro also has significant expertise and experience as an advisor to early-stage start-ups in the life sciences. Pedro has contributed significantly in areas related to his core expertise and experience including serving as Advisor to Minister of Economic Affairs in the Netherlands and serving as a member of the South Netherland Council of Advice for Innovation and Investment, and the Governance Committee of Leiden University of Applied Sciences.
