The Department of Folklore and Ethnology/Roinn an Bhéaloidis is proud to host this very seasonal lecture by Dr Aoife Granville!

The tradition of the Wren has survived and thrived through to the 21st Century in a particular and unique way in Dingle town. The four main parading groups enthusiastically march around traditional routes of the town throughout the 26th of December in a colourful display of masquerade, music, marching and dancing. The music of each group’s band is significant and specific to the tradition and locals firmly state that the tradition, and indeed its music, is very much a part of their identity and ‘dingleness’
