If The Walls Could Talk

11 Dec 2013

If the Walls Could Talk explores the relationship between some of Cork’s most historic buildings and the people who use them, and includes an interview with our own Michael Holland, University Curator. Based on excerpts from interviews with local historians and residents, the DVD is illustrated with audio clips, original music, and images from the Cork Folklore Project archive and Cork-based photographer, Gráinne McGee. In addition, there are rare images taken by Roy Hammond, from the private collection of author Michael Lenihan, the Irish Examiner and Evening Echo, the Lawrence Collection of the National Library of Ireland, the Irish Architectural Archive, and from the Crawford Art Gallery, Cork.

The Cork Folklore Project’s DVD exploring Cork's Built Heritage, If the Walls Could Talk, is now available to buy from the office of the Department of Folklore and Ethnology, UCC Visitor Centre, UCC online shop, and outlets around town, for €10.

Commissioned by Niamh Twomey, Cork City Council’s Heritage Officer, as part of Cork Heritage Open Day, the DVD was produced by Mark Wilkins and Ian Stephenson for the Cork Folklore Project, with additional support from the Heritage Council. All proceeds from the sale of the DVD will support future heritage projects.
