Confucius Institute (CI)
UCC students won the first and second prize in the 21st Chinese-Bridge Proficiency Competition in Dublin
The 21st Chinese-Bridge Proficiency Competition for Irish College Students was held at the Confucius Institute at University College Dublin(UCD) on April 24. Four contestants from UCC alongwith other 15 college students from other colleges in Ireland took part in a two-round competition in one day.
After the preliminary round of the contest which consists of a 90-second speech and a short performance, Anna and Gemma were selected by a five-member jury to compete with the other 6 finalists in the second round. Each contestant was given a two-minute time for a speech in Chinese around the theme" One World, One Family" followed by questions from one of the judges. Then they demonstrated their Chinese cultural skills through various types of performances such as martial art, singing and preparing tea.
In the end, Anna Roth from Foreign Applied Languages in UCC beat all her competitors to become the first prize winner of this competition. She will represent Ireland in competing with college students from other parts of the world later this year.
