Chinese Spring Festival Gala 2020
President Jin Donghan of Shanghai University Visits UCC
On April 16th, President Jin Donghan of Shanghai University led a delegation to visit UCC and had meetings with UCC President Patrick O’Shea and Deputy President and Registrar John O’Halloran along with acting head of the UCC Confucius Institute, Chris Williams. President O’Shea,welcomed his Shanghai University counterpart, highlighting Cork and Shanghai’s status as sister cities and applauded the Confucius Institutes role as a bridge between the institutions.
UCC Students Win Runner Up Prizes in Chinese Bridge Competition
On April 7th, 2018 the Irish leg of the 17th World University Chinese Bridge Competition was held Dublin. More than 20 Students form the country’s third level institutions gathered at the Riu Plaza in the Gresham Hotel, On Dublin O’Connell Street. Among the participants were six UCC students. Claire McGuiness, a first year; second years Eoin Meikle, Simona Balantua and Kabair Bernaird Cuffe; Han Si Ni a third year; and fourth years Vincent Conway and Sinead Leila Crehan.
UCC Confucius Institute and Cork City Council Host Dragon Boat Race
The Confucius Institute at Cork University collaborates with the Cork City Government to participate in the Dragon Boat Race
On April 21, 2018 to coincide with the annual Cork Maritime Festival, a Dragon Boat Challenge was held at the Port of Cochry in the afternoon.
Easter Camp 2018
From March 27th to 4th April 2018,108 TY students from schools in Cork, Maynooth, Galway, Limerick and Waterford attended the CI Chinese Language Easter Camp held by Hanban in cooperation with Shanghai University.
St Patricks Day Parade 2018
On March 17th the University College Cork CI was invited by the city government to march alongside members of the local community in the city’s St. Patricks Day parade.
All UCC’s CI teachers were delighted to receive this special honour on our host county’s national holiday
Tai chi, kung fu, dragon dancing and a performance of waist drums were all on display, receiving huge support and applause from the gathered crowds of spectators.
