UCC/FAI Recreational Soccer League

The UCC DSPA in collaboration with the FAI, selected three Student activators to run recreational Soccer 7-aside leagues in UCC.
This is our 5th year running these leagues. The numbers that participated were fantastic again, these leagues aim to get students physically active and competing with their peers, they are fun competitive leagues with all abilities welcome.
To see the astro full with students when it is normally empty (daytime) is why these leagues are a great success. We are engaging with the student body on campus during the academic day. The leagues are run in Semester 1 and 2. In Semester 1 we had 32 teams sign up with squads of 10, so over 300 students participating, In Semester 2 we had over 27 teams participate, which is fantastic engagement and positive student activity.
It was very well run so credit to Eoin, Richard and Lainey. Even with mixed abilities, all teams showed up for all games, the feedback from students was very good, everyone very much enjoyed playing, it is important we continue to fund and grow the league next year. We have to look at maintaining student activity that is inclusive all levels and abilities, it is a great bit of fun among peers.
