I obtained my undergraduate Honours degree in Clinical Speech and Language Studies from Trinity College, Dublin in 1982.

I subsequently worked in a variety of Community Care settings, with both paediatric and adult caseloads. As part of my work with the Galway Services I was lucky enough to work in a bilingual setting in the Gaeltacht area.  This was both a challenge and an opportunity I am glad I took at the time.

Following this, I moved to Auckland, New Zealand where I worked in an extramural setting with an adult population. This was of course very interesting and totally different to my previous experiences in Ireland.

On my return to Ireland in 1990 I specialised in speech and language therapy within a Child and Family Psychiatry settingin a number of Dublin clinics.  I went on to take an M. Phil in Linguistics in Trinity College (1995) I obtained a Hanen Scholarship in 1996.

I then took up a post in the SLT Paediatric Department, in the Adelaide and Meath Hospital, incorporating the National Children’s Hospital, Tallaght, Co Dublin. In April 2002, I moved to Waterford where I took up a position in the outreach Central Remedial Clinic.

I was appointed as Regional Placement Facilitator as part of the Practice Education Team in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences, UCC in March 2005.
