Welcome to the Brookfield Speech and Language Therapy Clinic.  This clinic was established jointly by the HSE –Southern Area and University College Cork in 2005. We provide Speech and Language Therapy to children living in the catchment area of UCC and children of students and staff of UCC (who are not receiving a service elsewhere). We provide a limited service to adults in this catchment area.  Our dual aims are to provide effective therapy for our clients and to provide education for Speech and Language Therapists-in-training.

At our clinic, therapy is provided by Speech and Language Therapists-in-training under the supervision of Senior Speech and Language Therapists and staff from the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences.

To become a qualified SLT, the student must learn a great deal of specialised knowledge during an intense four-year degree programme. The students must also learn therapeutic skills, so that they can help their clients effectively. To ensure that our clients get the best possible help, the supervising therapists and the staff in this department observe how students perform in the clinic. We use ‘observation rooms’ and videoing for this purpose. We see the students in action and give them feedback on their performance. The supervising therapist also spends some time in the clinic room with the clients.
