The Department of Italian is delighted to announce the fourth edition of the N.I.C.E. Italian Festival in Cork running from 4-6 April at the Arc Cinema. 

This year we have a vey exciting programme of films starting with the acclaimed director Paolo Sorrentino’s latest film Parthenope.

The festival will be officially opened by H. E. Nicola Faganello, Italian Ambassador to Ireland.

All films will be in Italian with English subtitles.

The School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures (SLLC) is happy to offer again his year a Scholarship for one of the Taught Masters Programmes available in our School (MA in Asian Studies, MA in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MATCSOL), MA in Migration, Mobility and Culture, MA in Translation Studies and the MA in Applied Linguistics). Applications are invited from students who will commence a Taught Masters programme in autumn 2025. Applicants should already have applied through CRM Recruit (www.ucc.ie/apply) for the relevant programme. The School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures warmly invite you to a seminar with Laetitia Devaux, Literary Translator in Residence 2024-2025.

In this seminar, Laetitia Devaux will share her experience of working as a literary translator from English into French for many years. She will discuss the main challenges she has encountered and the opportunities that have arisen from her professional commitment to literary translation in the French context. Examples from her own work will be provided to illustrate her arguments.

This is an opportunity for a translator to travel to Ireland and live and work in Cork City.

The seminar "Ditadura Nunca Mais/Dictatorship Never Again" examines the consequences of dictatorship in Brazil and the Americas on the occasion of the anniversary of the 1964 Military Coup in Brazil. The event will be hybrid and will include four interventions (two in Portuguese, two in English) by four guest speakers.
