University College Cork this morning welcomed the Government Cabinet for the second time. The cabinet met in UCC's historic Aula Maxima where they signed off details of the new National Development Plan.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin TD, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar TD and Minister Eamon Ryan TD were greeted upon arrival in the Quad by UCC President Professor John O’Halloran who escorted them to the President’s Office where they signed the visitor’s book and presented with a gift of UCC Alma Nectar honey. This honey is produced at the UCC apiary on campus which is part of the Green Campus Programme.

“We warmly welcome Taoiseach Micheál Martin and his Ministers to UCC this morning. It is a particularly proud moment for us to have a Cork Taoiseach bring his Cabinet to his alma mater, and to have a number of distinguished alumni among the Ministers here today” stated Professor O‘Halloran.

During the visit by Government, UCC student and climate activist Alicia O’Sullivan met with Minister Eamon Ryan TD to discuss the upcoming UN Climate Change conference (COP26), with the Minister giving a promise to meet with UCC students ahead of this important event. Alicia, who is a Quercus Active Citizenship Scholar, represented Ireland at the first UN youth climate summit in New York in 2019 and will represent Ireand and UCC at COP26 which will take place in Glasgow in October.
