UCC Alumni Fónathon

13 Jun 2022

President John O’Halloran recently visited the Alumni and Development offices in the Western Gateway Building, where a three-week Fónathon engagement campaign is currently taking place, and met with students who are working as Fundraising Ambassadors for the campaign.

Donations by UCC’s alumni are used to enhance the student experience, it is former students helping current and future students. At the end of each year grants are given to sports clubs, societies, music groups, theatre productions, student conferences and community outreach projects, to name just a few. The more money that is raised, the more projects UCC is equipped to support.

Throughout this year’s campaign, a team of 30 current students from all courses, at various stages of their studies, will be contacting graduates by phone to update them on all the latest news from the university and ask them for feedback on our alumni programme. It’s also an opportunity for the students to ask graduates about what they’ve been up to since graduating - and perhaps to seek advice on their own career aspirations.

The phone calls are excellent work experience for our students. In addition to acquiring new skills, the opportunity to talk to former students is invaluable. They enjoy hearing the stories of life on campus from alumni, gain tangible advice on what to expect after graduation and get an insight on possible future careers.
