President's News
President speaks with RTÉ
UCC President, Professor John O’Halloran, was a recent guest on the popular RTÉ Radio 1 show Mooney Goes Wild, in which Derek Mooney and his panel of guests explore the natural world in all its forms. The episode featuring President O'Halloran was recorded in November at UCC98.3FM. This is a new studio space on campus where students can develop interdisciplinary media skills helping them to find their narrative voice within their own education.
Both an ecologist and a zoologist, John O’Halloran is the first 'green university president'. He is committed to leading the UCC team through the next phase of transformation to secure the future for the University and make the planet a better place through ambitious research, high quality education and student experience, and first-class staff support. His love of nature led him to a career in ecology, providing him with a firm grounding in complex systems thinking which is critical to tackling the challenges the university and the planet face at present. He is a champion of lifelong and lifewide learning and to widening access to higher education.
The interview featured an engaging discussion on a range of topics including: the refreshing of the University Strategic Plan leading to the launch of UCC 2022 – Delivering a Connected University; the importance of multidisciplinarity; collaborative learning; and UCC’s Green Forum, which engages staff and students in sustainability through learning, research and practice.
