EAS 2025

The School of Physics is delighted to welcome delegates to UCC this week for the European Astronomical Society (EAS) Meeting - the largest astronomical conference ever held in Ireland.
Over 1,500 researchers from around the world have gathered for the event taking place from 23-27 June, bringing a significant boost of €2.8 million to the local economy. The conference will highlight groundbreaking discoveries, feature inspiring discussions, and honour distinguished academics.
We were also honoured to welcome Minister for Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, James Lawless TD, who was interviewed by UCC students, and toured the world leading laboratory led by Professor Seamus Davis which is pioneering insights into Quantum Physics.
A very well done to Kuoni Tumlare who organised this event along with a local organising committee which included Dr. Mark Kennedy (Chair), Professor Paul Callanan and Dr. Michael Tremmel, all from School of Physics UCC, UCC Conferencing and Events team and many others across the university who will be supporting and assisting this big event throughout the week.
A public lecture by Prof. Robert J. Nemiroff on NASA’s well-known Astronomy Picture of the Day will be presented this evening, 24 June, at 7pm (in Boole 4, UCC) along with other public events taking place throughout the week. Further details can be found here: EAS 2025
