Unleashing Relaxation: A Blissful Experience at a PAWS Yoga Class

As part of MCC PAWS@UCC program, an exciting offshoot of the programme initiative is called “PAWSOME MOMENTS”. This program allows UCC events, clubs,
& societies to request visits from MCC dogs by simply submitting a booking request by email. Recently, UCC Science Society collaborated with MCC PAWS @ UCC to host another yoga session featuring dogs for students. Building on the success of last year's event, Clodagh organized another memorable session where the dogs playfully struck the “downward dog” pose alongside participants. This event a unique collaboration as part of the MCC PAWS @ UCC to demonstrate how dog charities, both the Irish Guide Dogs & My Canine Companion (MCC) enrich the lives of people through the placement Service Dogs and companion dogs in communities. Darragh, a UCC Student Buddy Handler with MCC PAWS@UCC, captured the joy & connection experienced by students & staff in a blog post that beautifully summarized the event.
“The event started at 9:30 with many people in awe, with Kenny, the black Labrador from the Irish Guide Dogs, & Remi from MCC. Shauna, the fabulous yoga instructor, set the mode with some calming music, with the charity dogs providing physical relaxation & feel-good factor with constant pets & rubs. MCC Ruth & company tried to find out who gave the best ear rubs & lower back scratches. Two of the Irish Guide Dogs joined the relaxation party as everyone started flowing into a downward-facing dog. The charity dogs did not want to miss out on the fun & joined in with both little grunts that got laughs & kisses, which got rubs. Many new yogis were present, but the dogs & Shauna provided a calming experience that sent MCC Ruth to sleep on my legs. After 45 minutes of zen, the dogs were ready to get more belly rubs, doing all their tricks of the trade to get more attention. Seeing so many societies working together for such a fun event was great. The dogs want to meet again, so we will see if there are more puppy poses in the future.
