Winners of UCC School of Law Schools Essay Competition Announced

The UCC School of Law annual Schools Essay Competition has once again been a huge success!

A record number of entries were received with entrants from almost every county in Ireland represented.

The six competition winners attend schools in Longford, Galway, Clare, Limerick, and Dublin and were presented with a certificate and cheque at the prize-giving ceremony on campus on Thursday 1^st February.

The overall winner of the competition was Vivian Forde, whose enlightening essay detailing the consequences of Brexit on Ireland won praise from each of our judges.

Seán Windsor	Castleknock College	Co. Dublin	"The gender gap and Irish business.”
Vivian Forde	Calasanctius College	Co. Galway	“Brexit will have both positive and negative consequences for Ireland”.
Maryam Rahman	Colaiste Muire	Co. Clare	"Whistleblowers perform a public service and the law needs to protect them".
Sinead McWeeney	Mean Scoil Mhuire	Co. Longford	“Future generations will apologise for direct provision in the same was that we now apologise for Magdalene Laundries”.
Leon Carroll	St. Caimin's Community School	Co. Clare	“The Geneva Convention and the laws of war are irrelevant for soldiers when fighting terrorist groups such as ISIS.”
William Reynolds	Colaiste Ide agus Josef	Co. Limerick	“The Citizen’s Assembly shows democratic participation in action”.

Once again the judges found the essays to be of exceptional standard.
