All students, staff, and members of the public with an interest in humanitarian work, international law, diplomacy, or Middle East affairs are welcome to attend.

Presentation: Humanitarian Assistance Constraints in Gaza

Speaker: Mr. Allan Alonzo Wind

Bio: Mr. Allan Alonzo Wind is a retired Senior Foreign Service Officer from USAID and an experienced humanitarian practitioner who has served across the globe, including in Gaza. Most recently he served two years until December 2023 as the International Medical Corps Mission Director in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories (oPt), supervising a staff of seven expats of different nationalities and over 75 local Palestinian staff, in Gaza and Bethlehem.

Mr. Wind is the author of the acclaimed recent book A Jew in Gaza: Humanitarian Heartbreak, Hubris and Horrors, offering deeply reflective and first-hand insights into the complex realities of humanitarian assistance amid the ongoing conflict between Palestinians and Israel. Drawing from his extensive field experience, Mr. Wind will explore the constraints, ethical challenges, and policy dilemmas faced by those working to deliver aid in one of the world’s most politically charged environments. He has also recently completed a new collaborative book with Palestinian poet Mohammed Arafat, titled One Conversation, Two Identities, Three Faiths: Revisit Gaza’s Heartbreak Through Questions, Faith and Friendship. This unique work captures an interfaith dialogue and shared human response to the Middle East crises—bridging perspectives across religion, culture, and experience.
