Second Edition of Consumer Law: Rights and Regulation by UCC Professors Mary Donnelly and Fidelma White published

6 Feb 2026

Over a decade on from the publication of the first edition, Round Hall has released this latest analysis of consumer law by Professor Mary Donnelly and Professor Fidelma White, with a foreword by Mr Justice Gerard Hogan of the Supreme Court.

As described by Mr Justice Hogan in the Foreword:

“Irish consumer law is a curious amalgam of statute law and case law, national law and EU law. Its reach is at once almost universal and yet elusive. All of this makes it very difficult for the authors to identify the subject matter and yet to organise it thematically and in a manner that is at once both readable and comprehensive.  The very nature of the subject matter makes it difficult to compose and present a work of authority and yet to make it readable and interesting.  Undaunted by these formidable challenges, the author have succeeded admirably in overcoming them in the new addition of this authoritative textbook.”

As the authors note in their Preface, the field of consumer law has developed significantly since the first edition of the book and so too have the challenges to be addressed.  The scale of developments since the first edition in 2014 mean that this second edition is a substantial rewrite.  This edition addresses international, EU and Irish consumer law.  It includes analysis of the growing body of Irish consumer legislation, such as the Consumer Rights Act 2022 (CRA); the Consumer Insurance Contracts Act 2019; and the Consumer Protection Code 2025 as well as the ever-expanding corpus of EU consumer protection legislation.

This book is aimed at legal practitioners advising both business and consumer clients; policy and law makers; regulators; consumer organisations; and students and scholars in the consumer law field.   Further details are available from: https://www.sweetandmaxwell.co.uk/en-gb/products/consumer-law-rights-and-regulation-2nd-edition-print-and-proview-ebook-bundle-43482130
