Dr Mary Tumelty appointed to Health and Social Care Professionals Council
The Minister of Health has appointed UCC School of Law lecturer Dr Mary Tumelty to the Health and Social Care Professionals Council.
Dr Tumelty was appointed as a person whose qualifications, interest and experience, in the opinion of the Minister, would be of value to the Council in performing its functions.
The Health and Social Care Professionals Council is a branch of CORU, Ireland's multi-profession health regulator. The role of CORU is to protect the public by promoting high standards of professional conduct, education, training and competence through statutory registration of health and social care professionals.
The Council is responsible for overseeing the governance and strategy of the Health and Social Care Professionals Council, including finance and risk; staffing; legal decisions and strategic planning. It is comprised of members from each medical profession, as well as the education sector, patient advocacy groups, the voluntary sector and representatives of public and private sector organisations who are concerned with health and social care.
Dr Tumelty has lectured in UCC since 2018 and her research interests include medical law and ethics, patient safety and alternative dispute resolution. Congratulations to Dr Tumelty on her appointment!
