Dr Henrietta Zeffert hosts roundtable discussion group on homelessness at Manchester Law School
The roundtable and Dr Zeffert’s visit to Manchester Law School was funded by a Royal Irish Academy Charlemont grant. This grant funds international research collaborations. Professor Clough and Dr Zeffert are currently working on a feminist legal geography of home.
Temporary accommodation settings, such as hostels, ‘bed and breakfasts’ and shelters, are not meant to be 'homes' yet many homeless women live in these for a number of years. Being homeless for some women can mean more than just the loss of home: it also affects the ability to perform mothering work and many other social and familial practices that are dependent on the spaces of home. Professor Beverley Clough, Manchester Metropolitan University, and Dr Henrietta Zeffert, UCC School of Law, considered these issues in a roundtable discussion group they hosted last week with colleagues at Manchester Law School. Participants read and commented on Emma Bimpson, Sadie Parr & Kesia Reeve (2022) Governing homeless mothers: the unmaking of home and family, Housing Studies, 37:2, 272-291.
