Welcome

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to the June 2022 edition of the IT Services newsletter. I hope you will find the contents of this edition useful and relevant to your role. It has been great to see our physical campus so full of life and active with students, and our digital campus has remained busy and active.

This edition of our newsletter will bring you information on our newly formed Digital Advisory Centre, where staff can learn how to really extract value from our Microsoft and Google products. I also want to bring your attention to changes to our IT Services Website - it.ucc.ie, we are moving much our internal content onto a SharePoint portal. We strongly recommend that all staff sites should look at this approach both from a cyber security and a content management perspective.

I am excited to also advise you of some new committees that we have established, colleagues in IT have setup two important new groups - an Inclusivity Committee and a Sustainability Committee. These committees were established to focus our efforts across IT on contributing to being a more inclusive university and a more sustainable university. Also featured in this edition we celebrate staff achievements including; staff leadership award, project award, a feature story on our colleague Noelette Hurley and the retirement of our colleague Aidan O’Donovan.

We are presenting our newsletter this month in a new format on our website, and as usual we want your feedback on this newsletter and on IT Services more broadly, please contact our newsletter editor, Deirdre Keane, with your suggestions and feedback.

Finally, as a community we wanted to add our condolences on the recent passing of our dear colleague Paul Keegan. Paul started working in UCC in the Computer Bureau in the mid 1980’s, Paul moved to Department of Mathematics and retired from UCC in 2015. Paul contributed in a significant way to the early development of IT systems on campus and our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.  Rest in peace Paul.
