IT Policy Framework
The overarching IT Policy Framework is a high-level description of the IT policies, outlining their purpose and the process by which are maintained.
The IT Policy Framework outlines structures and processes that are relevant across all policies such as:
- IT policy governance structure
- Common terms which are reused throughout all IT policies
- IT resource monitoring
- Policy breach protocol

UCC IT policies are divided into two areas: policies pertaining to IT Service Resource Usage and Security, and policies pertaining to UCC Data.
Other policies that should be read in conjunction with these include HR, OCLA and Legal and Statutory regulations. DEWG has overall responsibility for IT policies
IT Security and Usage Policies
Name | Description |
Acceptable Usage Policy | This policy is designed to help the UCC community to understand their responsibilities when utilising, accessing or creating content with UCC’s IT resources or networked services. It clarifies and defines (within reason) what the Universities deems as an acceptable use of these resources. |
Web & Social Media Policy | This policy clarifies how the University governs this digital estate and also provides guidelines for users when creating non-academic digital content on behalf of the University and guidelines around the use of official university social media accounts. |
IT Security Policy | The objective of this security policy is to promote a culture that helps maximise the value of information through its efficient management and secure protection as well as safeguarding the University and the rights of staff, students and other parties who depend on the information or to whom it relates. |

Privacy Statement | This statement relates to the privacy practices of University College Cork – National University of Ireland, Cork (“the University”) in connection with the University’s websites. |
Data Policies
UCC Data policies will be rationalised and reviewed as part of 2017/2018 GDPR efforts.
Name | Description |
Records Management Policy | This Policy is designed to help the UCC community understand their responsibilities with regards to the protection of electronic data, including personal data. In particular electronic data and information belonging to, or held by, University College Cork. |
Externally Hosted Personal Data Process and Policy | The policy establishes a process to help manage the storage of personal data outside the UCC network. Where personal data is involved and University staff wish to store this data on external systems, the document explains the steps required to get approval for such arrangements. |
Data Protection Policy | This policy is a statement of the University's commitment to protect the rights and privacy of individuals in accordance with the Data Protection Acts. |
Data Classification Proceedure | The Data Management Policy requires Data Owners to classify their data according to its sensitivity and criticality. This procedure sets out how this classification is to be performed. |
