Populist and far-right movements have gained significant traction in recent decades. Their rise and activities reshape the political landscape, challenging the established order and leading to a decline in respect for human rights, equality, justice, and international norms. Consequently, the impact of their actions can be profound on individuals and communities.
Considering that far-right ideologies and values, such as self-interest, lack of solidarity, greed, xenophobia, and racism, are shared across EU borders and are increasingly perceived as a transnational threat, this panel, convened by members of the ISS21-Populism and the Rise of the Far-Right Cluster, aims to delve into the intricate factors driving this phenomenon. The panel will explore how far right and populist movements are effectively active in broadening their appeal and examine the potential long-term consequences for democracy and social cohesion.
