Public Patient Involvement (PPI) in Family Carer Research
As part of an ongoing PPI collaboration, Care Alliance Ireland and ISS21 launched their joint initiative entitled CARERENGAGE: Centering and Embedding Family Carers in the Co-Production of Carer Research, Supports and Policy, funded by the Irish Research Council New Foundations Programme, on 13 October 2020.
The launch involved ISS21 and CAI co-facilitating and co-delivering an online roundtables on Public Patient Involvement (PPI) in Family Carer Research, which was attended by family carers, academics and researchers, health and social care providers and CVOs. The roundtable featured three presentations, followed by a lively and engaging panel and group discussions between family carers, researchers, CVOs and health and social care providers who attended on how to implement best practice PPI with regard to family carer research.
Dr Jon Salsberg (University of Limerick) spoke about best practice PPI in health and social care (click here to access recording). Dr. Nikki Dunne, Family Carers Ireland & Jo Bergin, Family Carer, spoke about a recent PPI initiative and lessons learnt between UCD and Family Carers Ireland (click here). Aisling Harmon (PPI participant expert and family carer) provided a response from a family carer’s perspective.
