Children's Research Advisory Groups: 'Who else would you ask?’

Summary

This seminar explored a number of issues relating to child participation, including the policy context for child participation and children’s contribution to the development of national policy in areas which affect them, for example through Daíl na nÓg. It outlined child participatory research approaches, which are usually based on group activities. PPI involving children was also considered. It was noted that while often discussed as an important step in ensuring patient-centred care, involving children and families across the life cycle of clinical research is not currently routine. The barriers to children's engagement in PPI processes were discussed, along with possible ways forward.

In the second part of the seminar, case studies from the presenters’ projects were used to illustrate children’s research advisory groups in action.
