Professor Diane Reay, University of Cambridge gave the keynote address at the launch of an important new book by the ISS21 REACT Cluster and UCC – Collective Social Futures on Thursday 12th September.

Thursday 12th September saw the exciting launch of an important new book by the ISS21 REACT Cluster and UCC – Collective Social Futures. Taking place at the UCC Centre for Executive Education at 1 Lapps Quay in Cork the launch morning was well attended by staff and students from UCC and beyond, including Master of Social Work (MSW) students.
Keynote Address by Professor Diane Reay
The book launch morning opened with an inspiring talk from President of UCC, Professor John O’Halloran. The keynote address titled ‘Educational inequality and its social impact: an English Case Study’, was delivered by Professor Diane Reay, University of Cambridge who shared important critical reflections, analyses and lessons for us all on educational inequalities in England, and was chaired by Professor Maggie O’Neill, ISS21 and UCC Futures – Collective Social Futures.
Following on, a presentation on the book was given by Professor Fred Powell, School of Applied Social Studies as well as an engaged and enjoyable questions and answer session chaired by Dr Stephen O’Brien, School of Education, who provided an insightful response to Professor Powell's presentation. The question and answers session included Professor Reay, Professor Powell, and the authors of the book; Dr Margaret Scanlon, Patrick Leahy, and Olive Byrne.
Dr Catherine Forde, Convenor of ISS21 REACT cluster closed the launch with concluding remarks.
