New Postdoctoral Researcher
Dr Elena Gomez Alvarez
We would like to extend a very warm welcome to Dr Elena Gomez Alvarez, our new postdoctoral researcher in the Centre for Research on Atmospheric Chemistry (CRAC). Elena completed her PhD research on the atmospheric chemistry of organic compounds at the EUPHORE atmospheric simulation chamber facility in Valencia, Spain. She then took up a postdoctoral position at the Laboratoire Chimie de l'Environnement (LCE), Aix-Marseille Université, France, where she initiated a new line of research on Indoor Air Quality. Elena made some important findings on the role of indoor gas-surface reactions that formed the basis of a landmark paper published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Science (PNAS). Elena has now secured a prestigious Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship to continue her research at UCC, where she will be using state-of-the-art mass spectrometry techniques to determine the chemical composition of atmospheric aerosols. We welcome Elena to the School of Chemistry and ERI and wish her all the best in her career at UCC.
