BEES Geology graduate Katelyn Hosford wins national mapping prize

4 Feb 2026

The Geological Survey (GSI) awards two annual prizes for the best final year research projects submitted by the Irish universities.

BEES geology graduates have an outstanding record of winning one of these prizes, reflecting the calibre of our best students and the emphasis we in the Geoscience discipline place on the acquisition of critical field mapping skills as a vital component of our undergraduate degree.
This year's joint winner is Katelyn Hosford who carried out her project on Melmore Head, Co. Donegal supervised by Dr John Reavy.
In congratulating Katelyn, Dr Koen Verbruggen (Director of the GSI) emphasised the high quality of Katelyn's geological mapping, the volume of data collected and her well-written thesis interpreting the geology of a complex area.
Congratulations  to Katelyn and well deserved!
