Two complementary exhibitions will open this week at the Glucksman Gallery, UCC in association with the School of BEES.

Fieldworks: Animal Habitats in Contemporary Art
August 1 – November 2, 2014
From forests and jungles to city streets and public zoos, Fieldworks invites you to take a closer look at the ways in which animals have been depicted in their habitats and how these environments affect our understanding of different species.
Featuring works by Irish and international artists, Fieldworks reveals how animals forage, nest and play within a variety of locations and offers a remarkable insight into life in often hidden corners of the animal kingdom.

Artists: Adam Chodzko, Petra Feriancova, Petrit Halilaj, Ho Rui An, Jochen Lempert, Flo Maak, Chris Marker, Wesley Meuris, Ciarán Murphy, Vanessa Safavi, Julia Schmid, Sonia Shiel, and Ruth van Beek.
Curated by Chris Clarke in association with UCC’s School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences (BEES)

The Learning Zoo: Artefacts from UCC's Zoology Museum
August 1 – November 2, 2014
The Learning Zoo invites you to discover a selection of the fascinating objects and materials used in teaching and research at UCC. Featuring a range of unusual artefacts, including stuffed animals, shells, eggs and skeletons, this exhibition includes a number of unique specimens collected and kept within the University's Zoology Museum.
Queen's College Cork (now UCC) was established in 1845 and teaching began in October 1849. One of the first jobs of the newly formed college was to progress a museum of Natural History (Zoology, Botany, Geology). Past students and Cork exiles donated specimens from places as varied as New Zealand, Canada and South Africa.

An extensive programme of curated events, talks, art courses and workshops takes place during the exhibition run. Consult www.glucksman.org for full details.

Both exhibitions will open this Thursday 31st July at 6pm.

A panel discussion with the curators and artists Wesley Meuris and Sonia Shiel will take place in the gallery at 5pm.
