On a recent visit to Roinn an Bhéaloidis, folklorist and author, Eddie Lenihan, spoke of his excitement at having one of his collections of fairy stories translated into Japanese:

“When it was first published I could hardly have expected Meeting the Other Crowd to take me to the various places that it has. The latest was Japan, partly to promote the Japanese translation of the book, partly to tell traditional Irish stories to Japanese audiences at all levels – from university students, to primary school children, to general audiences of curious Japanese listeners (and there were quite a few of these!). It was a journey very well worth making. I discovered a whole new culture – one that has quite a bit in common with our own. Shinto was immediately recognizable to me in its rituals, its regard for water, trees, the land itself. At some of the smaller, more intimate shrines, I might easily have been at a holy well in Ireland”

A reg‌ular visitor with us, Eddie will join us once more on the 1st of November, and is sure to delight students and staff alike with legends pertaining to this special time of year!
