 Congratulations!

President’s PhD Scholarships in the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences, and the College of Business and Law

Congratulations to Pilar Molina who has been awarded a PhD Scholarship Prize by the President's Office for 2006/2007. The primary focus of the President’s PhD Scholarship scheme in 2006/07 is to further support those researchers who have been successful in winning peer-reviewed research grants. Award of the Scholarship is decided by a Review Committee, comprising the President, Registrar and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Vice President - President’s Office and the Vice President for Research. The Scholarship will have a value of €1,250 plus fees and be tenable at NUI Cork. The Scholarship will be funded by the President's Office.  


Faculty of Arts PhD Scholarship

Congratulations to Orla Borrey who has been awarded a PhD Scholarship Prize by the Faculty of Arts for 2006/2007. The Scholarship will have a value of €5,000 plus fees and be tenable at NUI Cork. The Scholarship will be funded from the Arts Faculty Research Fund. Award of the Scholarship is based on:
      a. the applicant's prior academic record;
      b. the academic value and feasibility of his/her proposed research topic; 
     c. the capacity of the applicant's department of registration to support, direct and supervise the candidate in the proposed field of research.

THE JOSEPH G. HEALY MEMORIAL PRIZE

(Prize value €250)

The University has received a sum from a donor who wishes to remain anonymous, for the provision of an annual book prize to perpetuate the memory of the late Dr Joseph G. Healy, Professor of Spanish, who died in 1963.  The current value of the book prize is approximately €250. The following conditions of award have been adopted by the Governing Body:

1.      That the prize be called "The Joseph G. Healy Memorial Prize".

2.      That the prize be awarded to the student who has obtained first place in Spanish at the First University Examination, provided he/she has passed this examination, without compensation, at the first attempt, and that he/she has obtained a mark of at least 210 out of 300 marks in Spanish.

3.      That the book(s) constituting the prize be selected by the winner, subject to the approval of the Professor of Hispanic Studies.


THE NIALL J. WARE MEMORIAL PRIZE

(Prize value €200)

A fund was raised by the family, colleagues and friends of the late Niall J. Ware who was Professor of Spanish from 1964 to 1978 and handed over to the Governing Body for the provision of an annual prize to be known as "The Niall J. Ware Memorial Prize". The current value of the prize is c. €200. The prize is awarded to the student who obtains first place in Spanish at the BA (Hons) Degree Examination, provided:

1. That the prize be called "The Niall J. Ware Memorial Prize".
2. The Academic Council considers that a sufficiently high standard has been attained.
3. That the prize be awarded to the student who has obtained first place in Spanish at the BA (Hon) Degree Examination, provided that:

(a) he/she has obtained First Class Honours in Spanish at the BA (Hons) Degree Examination and has passed the examination as a whole at the first attempt.
(b) he/she has been a student in University College Cork, for the two years immediately preceding his/her BA (Hons) Degree Examination.
(c) he/she has passed all his/her University Examinations in the minimum time and at the first attempt.
(d). he/she is not a native speaker of Spanish.

4. That the prize consist of a parchment and a sum of money.
