Classroom Technology Upgrades

Throughout Summer 2025, a major suite of enhancements has taken place across our teaching estate. A total of 44 rooms have undergone upgrades. These upgrades are part of UCC's ongoing commitment to creating an inclusive and accessible learning and teaching environment. IT Services led out on these upgrades, made possible through funding from Access UCC, and in collaboration with Buildings & Estates and the Centre for Digital Education.
High-quality microphones have been installed to capture the lecturers voice more clearly at the lectern and teaching area, removing the need for wearable or handheld mics. This allows the lecturer to move and teach more freely, with new cameras automatically tracking and recording you only when UCC Replay (Panopto) is scheduled or when using MS Teams. The new camera tracks lecturers as they move on the stage. Please note that this camera moves even when not recording.
The new microphones in the ceiling are very sensitive. Please note that if you are recording, this microphone is likely to record anything you say on the teaching platform. If you are having a confidential conversation, we recommend you pause or stop recording. You can edit all Replay recordings afterwards if you need to do so.
Other enhancements include new speakers, new cameras, several new teaching podiums, as well as new displays in many rooms. We are also rehousing any of the existing functional equipment from these rooms to improve the learning and teaching experience across other areas of campus.
Students will benefit from clearer in-room audio via new speakers, and improved sound and visuals in Replay recordings.
A total of 44 rooms have been upgraded, including rooms in Áras na Laoi, Boole, Brookfield, the Kane Building, Western Gateway Building, and The Hub. See the full list of rooms and upgraded features: list of upgraded rooms and enhancements
We encourage all teaching staff to familiarise themselves with the new features. If you come across any issues, or need any assistance, please don’t hesitate to report an AV incident on the Staff Services Portal.
Thank you for your continued support in making our campus more accessible and inclusive. We will share a further update on these upgrades in the coming weeks.
