Conference Prizes

Dr. Maria Buckley's paper was awarded a distinction ahead of the Digestive Diseases Week (DDW) international conference which will be held in Orlando, Florida from May 18th to May 21st.
Maria is a researcher in the Department of Physiology and APC working with Dr. Dervla O'Malley. Maria's paper is titled "Inhibition of Interleukin-6 signalling suppresses visceral pain sensitivity and stress-induced defecation in the Wistar Kyoto rat model of IBS". The distinction is awarded to just 10% of submitted abstracts.
Philip Lewis (Department of Physiology) was awarded a poster prize for his paper "Chronic hypoxia induces differential time-dependent and muscle-specific oxidative changes to the skeletal muscle proteome" presented at the International Hypoxia Symposium meeting at Lake Louise, Canada in February. Philip, a third year PhD student, working with Prof. Ken O'Halloran in collaboration with Prof. Dave Sheehan (Department of Biochemistry) was awarded a College of Medicine & Health travel bursary to support his attendance at the meeting. Three PhD students from Prof O'Halloran's group presented their work at the meeting.
