First Aid

Advisory Note on Covid-19 Measures/Clarifications

  1. All areas must have emergency responder cover arrangements in place whilst working on the campus/satellite campus areas, especially if there is a risk of serious injury. This is unchanged by Covid-19.
  2. OFAs and chemical spill responders or fire marshals must be given relevant and appropriate PPE for Covid-19 response. This is a School/Department action.
  3. Changes in occupational first aid practices, e.g. avoidance of contact with aerosols in CPR etc. Updated advise from HSE for OFAs is available here. Note: this has been brought this to the attention of current UCC OFAs as of May 2020 (2 year current OFAs refreshed and new OFAs).
  4. Where shared resources are being considered, then those relevant emergency responders must be actually present in the premises or be immediately adjacent and contactable for when the various departments are working (across the operating hours) and most importantly be willing to do so/agree to cover another department. These are voluntary roles. They must also be given relevant and appropriate PPE for Covid-19 response.
