UCC MEngSc graduate Rohan Powar

Rohan Powar recently completed the MEngSc in Mechanical Engineering in UCC. This is what he had to say about his time here:

"I graduated from Sinhgad College of Engineering in Solapur, India, in 2015 with a BE in Mechanical Engineering. Later, I completed my Postgraduate Diploma in piping design and engineering construction from the Asian Academy of Professional Training India Pvt. Ltd. I also worked for Flex for around three years as a Senior Analyst in the logistic supply chain management department for Flex's Changi Singapore manufacturing plant.

I didn't want to study a traditional mechanical engineering masters course. So, I did a lot of research related to mechanical programs around the globe. UCC's MEngSc in mechanical engineering attracted my attention because it was a unique course that is specifically designed on the Industry 4.0 concept and a combination of all the engineering and management courses. Secondly, the UCC is one of the top universities in the world. I enjoyed all the modules.

The course is challenging, and research work kept me busy throughout the year. Time management and discipline are two essential skills I developed during my time in UCC. The best part about the program is it gives an in-depth knowledge of all the engineering branches. I obtained knowledge of robotics, programming, electronics, biomedical engineering, pharma industry, operation, and project management. It's impossible to get inside all engineering branches plus management skills in a single program, but this course made it possible for me.

I started my job applications very early in September. After a few rejections, I got a job in Nikon Precision Europe GMBH as a field service engineer before graduation. I am responsible for supporting all aspects of system support for Nikon step and repeat (NSR) semiconductor lithography systems. My job includes supporting customer sites worldwide. After training, I will be travelling to the USA, Japan, Scotland, and Israel. Travelling around the globe and working in a core technical field with high cutting edge technology was my dream which is now fulfilled. Thanks to UCC for shaping my vision into reality."
