UCC Palaeo Group PI Prof. Maria McNamara is one of the successful awardees in this year's round of funding under the Science Foundation Ireland Discover programme, which funds public engagement initiatives.

The new funding will facilitate a major expansion of the very successful Ireland's Fossil Heritage project, which has been running for three and a half years. During 2024 and 2025, the project team plan to conduct fossil-themed workshops at more schools around the country, to run various national fossil-themed art initiatives and host fossil-themed exhibits, and to train in new project facilitators around the country who can deliver public walks and other activities.

Maria said, "We are thrilled to receive additional funding from SFI. This is a testament to the success of the project to date, and means that we can continue bringing Irish fossils to the public in different ways."
