National Ploughing Championships 2022

Ireland’s Fossil Heritage in collaboration with iCRAG (Irish Centre for Research in Applied Geosciences) were delighted to host an interactive science exhibit at the National Ploughing Championships at Ratheniska, Co Laois on September 19th, 20th & 21st 2022. The Ploughing is one of the largest outdoor events in Europe and attracted over 270,000 visitors in 2022 with over 1,700 exhibitors on site. Visitors to our stand got the chance to solve The Fossil Crime Scene learn all about Irish fossils with the opportunity to touch and handle Irish fossils from the National Museum collection! The stand also featured a one-of-a-kind 3D model of an Irish Landscape with a cross section allowing visitors to examine what the rocks beneath our feet look like. We had fantastic conversations and discussion with members of the public all about our fantastic fossil and geological heritage here in Ireland. A huge thank you to everyone who visited our stand and shared their passion for the natural world with us.
