'Thank you' - A message from Professor Mark Poustie
Professor Mark Poustie reflects on his tenure as Dean of UCC School of Law
'As my term as Dean of UCC School of Law comes to an end next week I can say that it’s been an honour to lead such an excellent School over the last 6 years and I am very grateful to UCC for giving me the opportunity to do so. While I was delighted to have led the School back to the QS top 100 where it has remained for 5 years, to encourage greater levels of research ambition which has led to some significant grant capture, to ensure the School has become better known internationally and to develop strong relationships with the legal profession, our alumni and friends, the greatest fulfilment has been to appoint and support the career development of excellent colleagues alongside seeing students develop and succeed in their studies and embark on their careers or move on to further study. And we got through the challenges of the pandemic working together as a community.
I’ve tried to ensure that the hallmark of my leadership has been respect and my approach has been to encourage, facilitate and empower my colleagues and students – and perhaps inspire them on occasion.
Many thanks to all my fantastic colleagues and students: I could not have led the School effectively without your support and contributions and I am very proud of you and all you have achieved. I’ll be succeeded by my colleague, Professor Conor O’Mahony, and I wish him all the best for his tenure as Dean and I am certain the School will continue to thrive under his leadership.'
