In April, Louise and Marianne received the DSBA (Dublin Solicitors Bar Association) Law Book of the year award 2023/2024 for Family Law (2nd edition)
In January 2023, Prof Louise Crowley began working on the 2nd edition of 'Family Law' whilst on 6 months sabbatical leave from her role as Professor of Family Law.
In March 2023 she approached her then LLM student Marianne Joyce, and recruited her as a part-time research assistant to conduct some of the research. After 6-8 weeks it became apparent that Marianne's work was of such a high standard that Prof Crowley asked Marianne if she would be interested in becoming a co-author.
The pair worked intensely on the second edition right through the summer, finally submitting it, with an increase in word count from 400,000 to 600,000 in September 2023. Family Law is written for a range of audiences; students, practitioners and the judiciary, requiring a very considered approach to the exploration and articulation of the law and its application.
We are immensely proud of this edition, recognised as the leading Irish family law textbook which is now up to date incorporating significant reforms in respect of modern family formations, the best interests of the child, domestic violence, surrogacy, adoption and marriage equality. We were absolutely thrilled to be awarded the DSBA Law Book of the Year for 2023 and 2024 at a ceremony in Dublin on 10th April 2025, presented to us by the Attorney General Rossa Fanning.
