Cork crime-writers Catherine Kirwan and Catherine Ryan Howard in conversation at the Aula Maxima, UCC on Thursday 12th October, 6pm

This is a free event jointly hosted by the UCC School of English and the UCC School of Law to celebrate the recent publication of 'A Lesson in Malice' by Catherine Kirwan, an Inspector Morse style thriller set mainly in the grounds of University College Cork, featuring The School of Law, Áras na Laoi, UCC.  The event will take place on 12th October at 6pm.  

CATHERINE KIRWAN grew up on a farm in the parish of Fews, County Waterford. She studied law at UCC and lives in Cork where she works as a solicitor. Her first novel, Darkest Truth, was chosen as Cork’s One City One Book by Cork City Libraries in 2019. Her second book, Cruel Deeds, set in a fictional Cork law firm where one of the partners has been murdered, is out now in paperback. Her third, A Lesson in Malice, a thriller set mainly in UCC using real locations, including the Quad and the Aula Maxima, was published on 29th June 2023 by Hachette Ireland. 

CATHERINE RYAN HOWARD is an award-winning, internationally bestselling crime writer from Cork, Ireland.  Catherine’s fifth novel won the An Post Irish Book Awards Crime Fiction Book of the Year and was named by the New York Times, the Washington Post and the Irish Times as a best thriller of 2021. It was longlisted for the Dublin Literary Award 2023 and Amazon Studios/Atomic Monster are currently developing it as a TV series.

Her latest thriller is The Trap, which debuted at no. 2 in the Irish bestseller charts after only 3 days on sale and the following week took the no. 1 spot.
