Start-up Lab at UCC is BACK!

27 Oct 2020

Start-Up Lab at UCC is looking for people with passion currently working either full-time or part-time on scalable start-up ideas that have potential for commercial or social impact and with the ambition to work full-time on the idea in the future. It's open to undergraduate and postgraduate students and recent graduates in any discipline from any 3rd level institution in Ireland.

Over six weeks, the workshops will take place online and we will work with you to build and refine a robust business model for your business.

Each week we will provide specific guidance on the steps that you will take to develop your business model, provide you with an opportunity to present progress to experienced mentors and peers and work in small groups to address issues and overcome obstacles.

We will also have a guest speaker, an experienced entrepreneur, who will provide specific practical advice and guidance on important start-up topics such as networking, raising finance, building a team and more.

This Start-Up Lab is restricted to just 12 start-ups. Where there are multiple partners involved in the start-up, up to three are welcome to participate in any session.

While the overall approach will be learning through fun and enjoyment, it is expected that all participants are committed to work on their start-up idea between workshops.

All participants will be have the opportunity to pitch their idea to an invited panel on the final day and participants will be provided with specific recommendations on the next steps to develop their idea.

Participants who meet the criteria may be offered a place on the next IGNITE programme starting early 2021.

The workshops will kick off online on Tues 10 November at 18.00 and will run for 6 consecutive Tuesday evenings.

Those interested in participating are invited to submit an online application HERE.

The closing date for submitting applications is Thursday 5 November. Shortlisting will take place shortly after 5 Nov and those successful will start on Tues 10 Nov.

Participant Testimonials:

"The Start-Up Lab at UCC was an invaluable and worthwhile experience, teaching me a diverse range of beneficial skills moving forward in the world of entrepreneurship. The knowledge I have gained from the inspirational speakers and mentors will forever stand by me and I am excited to put them into action."

Jennifer McCarthy, Biological and Chemical Sciences student.

"Start-up lab at UCC provided me with the time and structure to work on my project. This, along with the networking provided, was priceless as far as developing my business concept."

Lisa Zychowski, UCC Alumni.

"The Start-Up Lab at UCC was the push I needed to get my idea out of my head and into the real world. Each week, during the workshops we'd update everyone on what we did over the past week, why we did it and what we learned from it. I had the opportunity to learn about stuff I wasn't familiar with like sales, marketing, finances and the 'scary' legal stuff.

The Start-Up Lab was easily the most exciting part of my time in UCC"

Paul O'Shea, Founder Peckish
